Faisalabad: The Department of Agriculture has announced a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre for sunflower cultivation to farmers under the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Emergency Program and directed them to cultivate oilseeds on a maximum area to reduce the domestic import bill.

A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture said that suitable varieties of sunflower include Hy Sun 33, T-40318, Agora 4, NKR Money, US 666, US 444, PAR Sun 3, Auksen 5264, Auksen 5270, S 278, HSF 360A, Sun 7, ORI sun 648, ORI sun 516.

He said that for the cultivation of sunflower, farmers should keep the quantity of clean hybrid varieties of seedlings at the rate of 2 to 2.5 kg per acre, while timely sowing of sunflower is essential for maximum yield.
