SAWIE is proud to announce its partnership with Ittefaq Cotton Industries, Bahawalpur & Syngenta Pakistan to launch a Regen Cotton Cluster project to promote regenerative agriculture practices for sustainable cotton production in Pakistan. This initiative responds to the growing demand in the textile sector for transforming cotton production to more sustainable practices.

The Regenerative  Cotton Cluster (comprising of SAWiE, Ittefaq Cotton Industries, and Syngenta Pakistan) organized a successful training session for farmers on June 22, 2024, at the Ittefaq Cotton Factory in Noorpur Noranga Bahawalpur. This session convened industry experts to share valuable insights on regenerative farming practices that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

The project is focussing on the key areas of Regenerative Agriculture:

  • Soil Regeneration: Utilizing no-till or reduced-till farming, cover crops, and organic amendments to improve soil health.
  • Biodiversity Conservation: Implementing crop rotation, intercropping, and habitat restoration to conserve biodiversity.
  • Efficient Water Management: Reducing synthetic inputs and promoting efficient water usage.
  • Integrated Pest Management: Adopting pollinator-friendly practices and integrated pest management.
  • Agroforestry: Incorporating ecosystem-based farming systems to support agroforestry.

Leading cotton experts, including representatives from WWF, Syngenta Pakistan, REEDS, Interloop, Sapphire Textile Mills Limited, Punjab Agriculture Extension Department, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA), and Fasal Pay, participated in the farmer training session. They shared their knowledge and experiences on implementing regenerative practices in cotton production, contributing to a richer understanding and wider adoption of these crucial methods.
