SAWIE Ecosystems Champions Regenerative Agriculture Cotton Cluster (RACC) with Key Partners in Bahawalpur

In collaboration with supply chain leaders Ittifaq Cotton and Syngenta, SAWIE Ecosystems is proud to lead the Regenerative Agriculture Cotton Cluster (RACC) in Pakistan’s cotton-rich Bahawalpur region. This innovative initiative is a critical step toward sustainable and climate-resilient cotton farming in Pakistan, where cotton crops are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and soil health in cotton-growing areas demands urgent improvement.

The first RACC, encompassing 3,000 acres, produced an impressive 5,000 bales of regenerative cotton, with the active participation of about 480 farmers. Engaging farmers through the entire production cycle—from sowing to picking and into subsequent wheat seasons—this cluster model is creating a practical foundation for adopting regenerative practices in agriculture.

Visit to Bahawalpur Cotton Ginning Factory: Deepening Our Commitment

A recent visit to a cotton ginning factory in Bahawalpur brought valuable insights into the cotton processing cycle. Seeing the ginning process firsthand reinforced SAWIE Ecosystems’ commitment to fostering a sustainable cotton supply chain. This partnership marks a significant step in our mission to improve soil health, conserve resources, and integrate regenerative practices throughout the cotton lifecycle.

Addressing Climate Impact on Cotton Production

In the face of climate change, which has exacerbated challenges for cotton farmers, SAWIE Ecosystems’ regenerative approach is both timely and impactful. Key practices within RACC include:

  • Soil Health Improvement: Focusing on soil regeneration through organic practices, minimizing chemical dependency, and enhancing nutrient retention.
  • Water Conservation: Emphasizing efficient water use and promoting practices like drip irrigation and soil moisture retention to reduce water wastage.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Reducing the reliance on chemical pesticides by using biologically-based pest control methods and enhancing biodiversity.
  • Nutrient Management: Advocating for responsible fertilizer use to avoid soil degradation, enabling a balanced nutrient profile that enhances cotton productivity and resilience.

These regenerative guidelines support the long-term productivity of Pakistan’s cotton fields, contributing to healthier ecosystems, resilient crops, and improved livelihoods for farmers.

Expanding Regenerative Agriculture Cotton in 2025: Join Us

Building on the success of the Bahawalpur RACC, SAWIE Ecosystems is planning to establish 10 more clusters by 2025, covering a total of 50,000 acres. This expansion aims to bring regenerative agriculture benefits to even more cotton farmers, enhancing productivity while preserving resources for future generations.

We invite partners, organizations, and stakeholders who share our commitment to sustainable agriculture to join us in this transformative journey. Together, we can amplify the impact of regenerative agriculture practices, creating a resilient cotton supply chain that benefits farmers, the environment, and future generations.
